New squad car computers on county agenda

NEW ULM – Brown County commissioners will consider using DWI forfeiture funds to replace seven in-car computers for squad cars for $26,304 on Tuesday.

The in-car computer upgrades would accommodate a mobile package, GPS (Global Positioning System), mapping, e-citation and e-charging, according to the Request for Board Action (RBA). The pricing is under Minnesota State contract pricing.

Commissioners will also consider:

Purchasing two new 2014 Ford All-Wheel-Drive, four-door, Police Interceptor SUVs to replace two existing squads to be taken out of service. Mileage on existing squads, which will be taken out of service, at the end of February was 158,325 and 108,893.

Bids under Minnesota State Contract pricing were $28,943.81 each, $57,887.62 total from Spaeth Ford, New Ulm plus pre-delivery inspections costs; and $28,831.82 each, $57,663.64 total from Nelson Auto, Fergus Falls, according to the RBA. The purchase of three squads was approved by commissioners for 2014.

Purchasing a new Chevrolet Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicle to replace existing squad with 135,777 miles at the end of February 2014. Cost is $27,156 at Ranger GM, Hibbing, which has the 2014 state contract, according to the RBA. When replaced, the old squad would be deemed surplus and sold on the State of Minnesota Surplus Services MinnBID website.
