Carissa Elkins, age 29, of Madelia, Minnesota died on March 16, 2014, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, due to a seizure resulting in a serious brain injury.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 19, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sturm Funeral Home, Pilgrim Chapel, Madelia and will continue on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Madelia.
Service will be held at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Madelia, on Thursday, March 20, at 10:30 am. The clergy will be Father Thien Nguyen. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery, Madelia.

Carissa Elkins was born June 21, 1984 in Mankato. She graduated from Madelia High School in 2003.She attended MSU/Mankato for two years. She began working at Luther Home in Madelia while attending Worthington Community College. During her commute in 2008, she was involved in a critical car accident and became permanently disabled. Carissa adored her children and was a very loving and caring person with a big heart. She accepted everyone as they are and never judged. Carissa’s spirit of giving continued after her death as many benefited through her organ/tissue donations, including a 48-year-old female waiting 108 days for a heart transplant and a one-year-old girl waiting 209 days for a kidney transplant.
She is survived by her children, Alex and Maryssa Augustin; parents, Cindy (Barry) Gulden, Doug (Sandy) Elkins; brother, Dustin Elkins; half- sisters, Tiffany and Melissa Elkins; half- brother Austin Gulden; special friend Juan Augustin; grandparents, Joyce and (Harold) Luepke and Ron Elkins; great-grandmother Dorothy Pauley and many other aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother Cathy Elkins; and grandfather Harold Johnson
