Holy Land Dinner Theater to present ‘Pistols & Posies’
ST. GEORGE – Tickets remain for the Saturday, March 29 Holy Land Dinner Theater performance and matinee on Sunday, March 30 at St. George Parish Center.
“Pistols & Posies,” a murder/mystery, set during Prohibition in the roaring twenties-a period in American history when the manufacturing, sale and transporting of alcohol was illegal, will be performed Saturday March 22 and 29 with a catered meal including Windsor pork chops, baked potatoes, salad, desert and beverages. A social hour begins at 5 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m., followed by the play.
“It’s been a challenge scheduling practice this winter with the weather, illnesses that sent some of the cast to the hospital,” said Director Marianne Bianchi. “But it’s an amazing parish that fights to keep this going. We’ve got some very dedicated cast members, some of which drove great distances to allow us to continue our tradition. We’re a small community that works hard to raise funds. It’s really a funny production.”
Set in Chicago, the play features powerful mob boss Primo Malvone (Tom Brown), whose wife Isabella (Erin Franta) thinks he finally got out of the “business” to become a florist, only to learn he’s in deeper than ever when his accountant disappears with $50,000.
Rival mob boss Mama Mia (Bonnie Brandel) wants to call a meeting when businesswoman Rosa Linguini (Carol Ashby) looks for a supplier (liquor of course), for her new fancy, new supper club.
Famous opera singer Luigi Lamborghini (the Rev. Tony Hesse), Isabella’s brother comes to town, so she throws a party, sending Primo’s men to get flowers from the warehouse. Then she invites Mama Mia and her thugs to the party and Mama Mia invites the police.
Meanwhile, Primo’s three daughters plot to get him out of the “business.” The ending is a surprise.
Saturday, March 29, dinner theater tickets are $35 and available by calling 354-2428. Sunday afternoon (1:30 p.m.) matinee tickets are $8 at the door on March 30. The play is sponsored in part by a Catholic Order of Foresters grant.
