GFW Board approves extended days
GIBBON – The Gibbon Fairfax Winthrop (GFW) school board approved a resolution Monday to extend early-out release dates on Thursday, April 17 and Friday, May 9 to full student contact days.
Teachers will be allowed to continue their PLC (Professional Learning Communities) work during the school year or make it up at the end of the school year. Each PLC leader will work with their building Q Comp leader and building administrator to schedule PLC time that works best for their team members.
The board approved holding a high school open house from 4 to 6:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 25, and elementary and middle school open houses from 4 to 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 26.
The board accepted the immediate resignation of head football coach Pat Hentges. In a letter, he wrote that it has been a pleasure to work with some great coaches-Charlie Sundeen, Mike O’Malley, Roger Jones, Rich Busse and Roger Rogotzke, who he called “amazing mentors to our players and my family as well. It’s been an honor and dream come true to work with such talented and amazing students,” he wrote.
Supt. Tami Martin said the district is working on an after-school robotics program with a group of GFW and Prairie Lutheran School 4th through 6th grade students. “We are looking at how to structure a plan to build up the program and have it become sustainable,” Martin wrote in her board report.
