Leroy “Sloppy” Konakowitz
NEW ULM – Leroy “Sloppy” Konakowitz, 76, of New Ulm, died Monday, March 24, 2014 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
A visitation memorial service will be held from 1-3 p.m. Friday, March 28 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, NORTH CHAPEL, in New Ulm. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery.

Leroy is survived by his daughters, Christine Konakowitz of Apple Valley, Carol Konakowitz-Warner of St. Paul, Catherine Konakowitz of Apple Valley; three grandchildren, Tylor, Steven, Michael; nine step-grandchildren; sisters, Zelda (Richard) Domeier, Joyce (Richard) Lingl, all of New Ulm; brothers, Richard (Darlene) Konakowitz of Hanska, Delmar (Kathy) Konakowitz of Springfield, Larry (Carole) Konakowitz, and Garry (Deb) Konakowitz, all of New Ulm.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Rita Franta on August 4, 1999; and second wife, Linda Konakowitz on February 24, 2012.
Leroy John Konakowitz was born on November 15, 1937 in New Ulm to John and Gladys (Harder) Konakowitz. He attended school in New Ulm. Leroy was united in marriage to Rita Franta on August 18, 1962 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm. On July 22, 1986, Leroy was united in marriage to Linda Grill in New Ulm. Leroy and Linda lived in the Twin Cities and Mankato until moving to New Ulm in 2000. Leroy, known by many as Sloppy, worked as a construction worker, as well as a landlord for various apartment complexes. Leroy enjoyed traveling, being outside, playing solitaire, penny slots, and the lottery. He also loved spending time with his dog, Baby. Leroy was a past member of the New Ulm Battery.
