Brown County REA holds annual meeting
SLEEPY?EYE – Brown County Rural Electrical Association (BCREA) held its 77th annual meeting on March 29 at the Eagles Orchid Inn in Sleepy Eye. More than 400 people attended, with 238 members registering.
Board President Tom Hayes recapped highlights of the past year. He reported that the board of directors approved deployment of an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system with two-way communication meters. Work on the project will begin in the fall of 2014.
General Manager Wade Hensel provided an update on the Alliant territory acquisition. He explained the work of the Southern Minnesota Energy Cooperative (SMEC) formed to serve as a single point of contact between Alliant Energy and the 12 cooperatives acquiring Alliant’s Minnesota service area.
Directors were elected in districts 2, 3, and 8, with a special election in District 7 to fill one year of a term vacated with the retirement of Elmer Guggisberg.
Incumbents Bradley Sprenger, Allen Hanson and Reuben Kokesch were re-elected in districts 2, 3 and 8 respectively. Greg Mages was elected to fill out the one-year term in District 7.
At the organizational meeting, Jim Mickelson was elected president of the Board, Tom Hayes was chosen as vice president, Jim Hanson was elected secretary/treasurer and Reuben Kokesch was elected as Brown County REA’s Great River Energy representative.
