PREP SOFTBALL: Cathedral, St. Mary’s both win
Cathedral 14, BLHS 2
NEW ULM – Abby Hauser hit two home runs in New Ulm Cathedral’s 14-2 victory over Tomahawk Conference opponent Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday.
Hauser led the Greyhounds at the plate, going 3-for-5 with the two home runs and five RBIs. Jenessa Rothmeier and McKenna Berdan each went 2-for-3.
Leah Krzmarzick earned the win on the mound. She went all six innings and gave up two runs on four hits and six strikeouts.
Katie Kalenberg was the losing pitcher. She gave up 11 hits, while striking out five batters. Kahlenberg helped her own cause with a solo home run. She was 1-for-2 for the game.
Cathedral (2-0) plays at home against Comfrey/Cedar Mountain on Thursday, while BLHS plays at Springfield on Thursday.
St. Mary’s 13, Wabasso 3, 5 inn.
SLEEPY EYE – Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Wabasso 13-3 in five innings in Tomahawk Conference softball action Tuesday.
Laura Pelzel earned the win for the Knights. She went five innings and allowed three runs, two of them earned. She struck out four and walked four while giving up three hits.
Callie Rohlik took the loss, giving up 11 runs in 2 2/3 innings.
Emily Schumacher was 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, three runs, three RBI and two stolen bases for the Knights. Larissa Helget was 2-for-3 with three runs, a triple and a stolen base. Deonna Brinkman had a double and two runs scored.
Rohlik had a hit for the Rabbits and scored a run.
St. Mary’s (1-0) is at New Ulm Cathedral at 5 p.m. Monday and Wabasso (0-2) hosts Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Monday.
