Orville Kley

WINTHROP – Orville Kley, age 88, of Winthrop, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at his home in Winthrop.

Funeral Service will be Friday, April 11, at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop with Pastor Bob Miner officiating. Interment will be in the Winthrop Cemetery. Military Honors by the Winthrop Honor Guard.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 10, from 4:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Orville Henry Ervin Kley was born on December 27, 1925, at home in Bismarck Township, Sibley County, MN. He was the son of Emil and Martha (Wieshert) Kley. Orville was baptized as an infant by Pastor Peter Mueller and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on September 3, 1939, by Reverend Alexander A. Schira, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bismarck Township. He received his education at country school. Orville farmed with his parents until 1951.

On December 6, 1950, Orville was united in marriage to Dorothy Pagel at Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop by Pastor C.A. Kuehner. After their marriage, the couple resided in Winthrop. They were blessed with four children. Orville and Dorothy shared 36 years of marriage before Dorothy passed away on January 6, 1987.

Orville entered active military service on March 26, 1951, and served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA, Ft. Hood, TX, Ft. Benning, GA, Ft. Knox, KT, Camp Kilmar, NJ and overseas in Germany. He was a mechanic for wheel and track. Orville received the AOM (Germany) Medal. He was Honorably Discharged on March 17, 1953.

Orville was employed for Johnson and Bumm Tiling, Tri County Co-op, Midland Co-op, Land O Lakes Co-op and Ag Land Co-op, from July 15, 1954 through 1988. From 1989 through 1999, he was employed at Green Giant-Seneca. In the summer of 1989, he worked at the Winthrop Golf Course.

Orville was a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bismarck Township. In 1967, he transferred his membership to Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop and held several offices. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #314 in Winthrop since 1953 and served as Commander, Chaplin and Membership Chairman; the VFW Post #4078 in Winthrop since 1957; and was on the Boy Scout Advisory Council.

Orville enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Blessed be his memory.

Orville is survived by his children, Wayne Kley of Winthrop, MN, and his family, Bradley Kley and his wife, Cassi of Lawton, OK, and their daughter, Cincer Kley; LeeAnn Kley and special friend, Michael Spoliansky of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Mark Kley and his special friend, Lisa Bode of Winthrop, MN, and his family, Ashley Kley and special friend, Kody Goulet of Colfax, WI, Ashley Betz and her daughter, Haylie Betz; Leon Kley and his wife, Sandy of Winthrop, MN and their son, Riley Kley; brother, Delmar Kley of Arlington, MN; sister-in-law, Phyllis Severin of Gaylord, MN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Orville was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Kley; infant daughter in 1958; father, Emil Kley in 1973; mother Martha Kley in 1963; brothers-in-law, Elmer Pagel and Orville Severin; sister, Arlys Pagel; and sister-in-law, Joanne Kley.
