PREP SOFTBALL: Cathedral, Wabasso go 2-1 at tourney

WABASSO – New Ulm Cathedral went 2-1 at the Wabasso Invitational on Saturday.

In Game 1, Cathedral beat BOLD 10-0 in five. Anna Mohr got the win in the circle, giving up three hits while striking out six. Abby Hauser went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, a home run and a double. Anne Schwarz went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs and MacKinnon Ehlenz was 2-for-3 with a triple.

Cathedral nearly overcame a 7-0 deficit against DeLaSalle in Game 2, but fell short in a 13-8 loss. Leah Krzmarzick got the loss for the Greyhounds, having given up 12 hits in 5 1/3 innings pitched. Jenessa Rothmeier went 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Cathedral closed its day by beating Benilde-St. Margaret’s 6-5 in Game 3. Karlee Pfaff went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and double, while Hauser was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a home run.

WABASSO – The Wabasso softball team went 2-1 at its home tournament.

In the first game, Wabasso defeated Murray County Central 16-3 in five innings. Callie Rohlik went the distance for the Rabbits, giving up one earned and three runs total on five hits with seven strikeouts.

Erin Liebl went 3-for-3 with a grand slam and five RBIs. Morgan Frank went 2-for-2 with four RBIs and a home run.

Benilde-St. Margaret’s defeated Wabasso 7-0 in Game 2. Alison Benz pitched a complete game, giving up seven runs on seven hits. Frank got the lone hit for Wabasso.

Wabasso bounced back and defeated DeLaSalle 6-3 in its final game. Rohlik got the complete-game victory, having given up three runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts. Frank went 3-for-3 with two RBIs.

St. James Area 7, MVL 2

ST. JAMES – Minnesota Valley Lutheran went 0-3 at the St. James Area Invitational on Saturday.

In MVL’s 7-2 loss to St. James, Karissa Schlottman got the loss having given up seven runs (three earned) on 13 hits. Charlotte Pfingsten went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double. Johanna Kettner went 2-for-3.

In Game 2, MVL lost to Norwood-Young America 21-2 in five. Hannah Biedenbender got the loss, allowing 11 runs on 10 hits while walking four in two innings of work. Kettner went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double.

MVL lost to Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial 12-2 in five. Biedenbender got the loss, giving up 10 runs (eight earned) on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings.

Schlottman went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a single.
