Willems sets single-season HR record
MANKATO, Minn. – Martin Luther College softball player Sara Willems set a new school single-season record with her seventh home run of the year in Tuesday’s doubleheader at Bethany Lutheran.
The junior entered the doubleheader with five on the season, and then hit one in each game to surpass the previous record of six set by Brittany Jensen in 2010.
Willems entered the season with one career home run, but has taken advantage to her opportunities this season, smashing six home runs in her last 10 games. Through 21 games, Willems leads the UMAC in both home runs (seven) and slugging percentage (.825), and also ranks in the top 10 in runs batted in (23) and doubles (seven).
MLC returns to action at 1 p.m. on Thursday, when they host Northwestern (Minn.) in a doubleheader.
