Eagles pound Blue Earth Area, Cleveland tops M-T

BLUE EARTH – New Ulm scored eight runs in the first inning en route to a win over Blue Earth Area on Thursday in South Central Conference softball action.

Hannah Backer was the winning pitcher going five innings. She gave up only one hit, struck out six and she walked one batter.

Backer was also 2-for-4 with a double. She scored three runs and she stole two bases. Ellie Schneider was 4-for-5 with two runs scored, a double and two RBI.

Katie Forst went to 2-for-2 with one run scored. She had three RBI and one stolen base.

New Ulm (4-0, 3-0) will host Waseca on Thursday in a South Central Conference game.

Cleveland 4, M-T 3

MADELIA – Cleveland edged Madelia-Truman on Thursday in a Valley Conference softball game.

Desi Becker was the winning pitcher for Cleveland. She pitched seven innings, gave up three runs, eight hits and she struck out 10 batters.

Beth Kotewa took the loss by giving up four runs and seven hits in seven innings pitched. She walked one batter and she struck out eight. Kotewa was 2-for-3 from the plate.

Brinnia Pearson went 2-for-2 with one run scored for Madelia-Truman. Brianna Stevenson went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Stephanie Jahnz went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.

Madelia-Truman (2-3) will play Martin Luther-Granada-Huntley-East Chain on Tuesday in Northrup.
