Vicky Koehler

BIRD ISLAND – Vicky Koehler, age 89, of Bird Island died peacefully on Friday, April 18, 2014 at the Fairfax Community Home. Mass of Christian Burial is Wednesday 1:15 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island with Rev. George Schmit as celebrant. Burial is in the Bird Island City Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday from 12:00 to 1:00 at the church. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Bird Island.

Victoria Lucy Koehler was born December 6, 1924 at Fairfax, MN, to August and Mary (Rauch) Dummer. She was baptized at St. George Catholic Church in St. George and confirmed at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Fairfax. Vicky attended St. Andrew’s School, graduating from 8th grade, after which her family moved to Olivia. She met Ronald Koehler and they were married on June 16, 1945 at Oakland, CA, where he was on military leave. Ron and Vicky were blessed with five children. They moved to the family farm in Bird Island and lived there until moving into Bird Island in 1968. Vicky lived there until moving to New Ulm in 2005 and she has resided at Fairfax Community Home these past three years. Vicky loved all kinds of puzzles, playing bingo, and listening to the Minnesota Twins. She was a wonderful baker and cook and she enjoyed tending her vegetable and flower gardens. Vicky truly loved babysitting and being with her grandchildren.

Vicky is survived by her children: Gerald (Rachel) Koehler of Raleigh, NC, Janet (Gary) Neubauer of New Ulm, Steve Koehler (Becky Apitz) of New Ulm, Jeannie (Gary) Dragt of Raymond and Carol (Kurt) Haakonson of St. Cloud; her grandchildren Nate (Jenni) Neubauer, Kyle (Becky) Neubauer, Chris (Jessica) Dragt, Adam Neubauer and fianc Jessica Lindgren, Michael (Carrie) Dragt, Samantha Dragt and Alexis, Cody, and Tucker Haakonson; and her nine great-grandchildren: Parker, Finley, Autumn, Brielle, and Landyn Neubauer, Riley, Connor, Joshua, and Parker Dragt. Victoria was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ronald; her sisters: Mary Talley and Ann Hopman; and her sisters-in-law Frances Springer and Gladys Hartmann.
