Cathedral shuts out Wabasso

MILROY – New Ulm Cathedral shut out Wabasso 7-0 in a Tomahawk Conference baseball game on Monday.

The Greyhounds scored two runs in the first, third and fifth innings before notching one more in the seventh.

Collin Helget led the Greyhounds at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance with three runs scored and one walk. Gabe Knowles went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and was both hit by a pitch and walked.

Wabasso (2-2, 2-2 Tomahawk) was held to three hits by Cathedral’s Russ Hoffman, who also struck out four batters for the win. Josh Altermatt got the loss for the Rabbits, having allowed six runs on four hits in 5 1/3 innings pitched.

Wabasso and Cathedral will play each other at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Mueller Park.

St. Mary’s 6, GFW 5

FAIRFAX – Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in a Tomahawk baseball game Monday.

Jon Kopacek earned the win for St.?Mary’s. He pitched four innings. He gave up three runs, four hits, struck out two batters and walked two.

Tanner Buettner took the loss, pitching 2 2/3 innings giving up five runs, seven hits and walking one batter.

St. Mary’s Brandon Helget was 3-for-4 with a double and Jared Beltz went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Buettner went 1-for-2 with two RBIs for GFW. Kolten Pingeon went 2-for-3 and Manny Randle was 1-for-3 with one RBI.

St. Mary’s (2-0, 2-0) will host Buffalo Lake- Hector-Stewart on Tuesday.

GFW (1-3, 1-3) will host Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Tuesday.
