NEW ULM – The New Ulm boy’s tennis team got its second win of the season on Tuesday by beating Redwood Valley 6-1 in a nonconference meet.

The Eagles (2-4, 0-2 South Central) swept all four singles matches with wins from Calvin Collum Jr., Josh Koelpin, Tim Haag and Joel Koelpin.

Nic Gartner and Noah Stocker continued their winning ways as a doubles pair, beating Cole Pettis and Sam Christensen 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 1 slot.

Gartner and Stocker have not lost in the time they have competed together as the No. 1 doubles tandem.

“We have an idea of what each other’s skill levels are, so we know that if we’re going to let the shot go that somebody will get it or they’ll know where to put it,” Stocker said. “We’re in coordination with each other of where to be on the court and where to put the ball.”

The duo’s win on Tuesday did not come without some minor flaws and frustrations, however.

“There were some serve issues – double-faulted a couple of times,” Gartner said. “Two double-faults is two times too many.”

If playing together will continue producing victories, Gartner and Stocker will start setting the bar a little higher.

“I think we can go pretty far, maybe make it to state, I would hope,” Stocker said. “We have still quite a bit of games to play, so we’ll see where it takes us.”

Earl Foster and Kelby Stocker earned the Eagles’ final win of the meet, beating Josh Linder and Logan Dehncke 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 3 doubles slot.

New Ulm continues its season at 4:30 p.m. on Friday at Fairmont.
