Springfield wins big over Waseca

SPRINGFIELD – Jordan Vogel pitched three strong innings for Springfield to secure the win against Waseca in nonconference baseball action on Tuesday.

Vogel did not allow a run in his three innings of work, allowing one hit and striking out one.

Vogel was 3-for-4 to help his own cause. Cooper Scheffler and Carter Erickson each went 2-for-4.

Springfield plays at Comfrey/Cedar Mountain in a doubleheader on Thursday.

St. Mary’s 9, BLHS 4

SLEEPY EYE – Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday in Tomahawk Conference baseball action.

Alex Sellner was the winning pitcher for St Mary’s. He went six innings, struck out nine, gave up five hits and one run.

John Brandl went 2-for-2 for the Knights with an RBI. Mike Zinniel went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Jake Pettit was the losing pitcher for BLHS. He pitched six innings, gave up 15 hits and nine runs.

Mason Olinger went 2-for-3 for BLHS.

Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s (3-0) will host Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Thursday. BLHS will host Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in a doubleheader on Thursday.

MVL 4, GFW 1

FAIRFAX – Minnesota Valley Lutheran defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Tuesday in Tomahawk Conference baseball action.

Nick DeWanz was the winning pitcher in all seven innings. He gave up one run on five hits and he struck out six batters. Four of his strikeouts came in the last two innings of the game.

Tanner Wenninger was the losing pitcher as he went four innings. He gave up two earned runs and six hits. He struck out five and he walked two.

Jacob Mielke of MVL went 3-for-4 with a double. Nick Fischer went 2-for-3 with a double.

Jayden Katenzenmeyer was 2-for-3 for GFW.

GFW (1-4) will travel to Hector to play Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Thursday in a doubleheader. MVL (2-3) will play a doubleheader against Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Thursday.

Cathedral 14, Wabasso 4, 6 inn.

NEW ULM – New Ulm Cathedral defeated Wabasso in Tomahawk Conference baseball action at Mueller Park on Tuesday.

Collin Helget earned the win for the Greyhounds. He went four innings, allowed two hits and struck out five.

Offensively for Cathedral, Nate Palmer was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and five RBI. Gabe Knowles was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and five runs. Helget was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and an RBI. Mike Skillings was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs and Jack Schwartz had two RBI.

Dirk Pistulka took the loss for the Rabbits. He allowed eight runs in 3 2/3 innings. Josh Altermatt was 2-for-2 with a double.

Cathedral (4-0) hosts Sleepy Eye at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

C/CM 11, Sleepy Eye 9

Sleepy Eye and Comfrey/Cedar Mountain split a Tomahawk Conference baseball doubleheader on Monday.

Marc Riederer was the winning pitcher for the Indians in the first game. Zach Kelly got the win on the mound for the Rockets in Game 2.
