NEW ULM – Shirley Johnson, 85, of New Ulm, died Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, April 25, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm with Pastor Jo Anne Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service at the funeral home on Friday

Shirley is survived by her sons, Michael (Jeanie) Groebner of Coon Rapids, Ronald (Colleen) Groebner of Mora, Randy (Bonnie) Groebner of Coon Rapids; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Joyce (Tom) Glaser of New Ulm; and by brothers, Wilbert “Bud” Brey of New Ulm, Raymond (Audrey) Brey of Eagan, Richard (Ginny) Brey of White Bear Lake, Tom (Judy) Brey of Los Angeles, Calif.; and by many nieces nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Ernest Groebner and Lloyd Johnson; daughter, Evonne Halverson; grandson, Brent Groebner; and her sister-in-law, Sandy Brey.
Shirley Marie Brey was born May 18, 1928 in New Ulm to Raymond and Esther (Zarn) Brey. She attended New Ulm Public Schools. Shirley was united in marriage to Ernest Groebner on June 4, 1946 in New Ulm. After marriage they lived in Mounds View where she was employed at Deluxe Check Printing in Arden Hills until retiring in 1990. She was then married to Lloyd Johnson on May 4, 1988 in Circle Pines. She enjoyed bowling, playing Bingo, cribbage and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan.
Shirley was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a past member of the Red Hat Ladies.
