Franklin “Frank” Stuckey

NEW ULM – Franklin “Frank” Stuckey, 79, of New Ulm, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, April 25, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Debra R. Bergstrand officiating.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Friday. To leave an online condolence for his family or to sign the guestbook go to:

Franklin “Frank” Foster Stuckey was born on March 17, 1935 in Tracy, to Percy and Avice (Youngs) Stuckey. The banks of Plum Creek near Walnut Grove were his home until the age of four when his family moved to a farm near Slayton. In 1954 he was graduated from Slayton High School and South Dakota State University in 1958. He was united in marriage to Marilyn J. Anderson on Dec. 15, 1956. He taught vocational agriculture for eight years in Westbrook, before moving to New Ulm to continue teaching, retiring in 1993. Franklin was integral in the recovery from the 1998 tornadoes that devastated Brown and Nicollet counties, especially with the reforestation of area farms. He was inducted into the Minnesota FFA Hall of fame in 2010, and he will be inducted posthumously into the New Ulm Baseball Hall of Fame in June 2014. Franklin is an adored husband, father, Papa and Great Papa to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Franklin had many interests, including gardening, woodworking, being “up at the lake” in Nevis, fellowship with his Men’s Bible Study, and the “Joe on the Go” group. He was one of the “dirty dozen” who founded the New Ulm Farm City Hub Club. Franklin was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and Sertoma Club.

He is survived by wife, Marilyn, of New Ulm; sons, Scott (Shannon) Stuckey of New Ulm, Randall (Beth) Stuckey of St. Peter, Bryan (Stefani) Stuckey of Lakeville; grandchildren, Ellen (Stephen) Hines, Mark (Breanne) Stuckey, Martha, Rachel, Tyler, Sara and Maggie Stuckey; great-grandchildren, Morgan Lou Stuckey, Ethan Stuckey, and Everest Hines; brothers, Stanley (Shirley) Stuckey of Grass Valley, CA; sisters, Bernice (Jerry) Kadolph and Illa Jean Beermann, all of Bethany, MO; Marilyn K. Lange of Cheyenne, WY; Kathleen (Gene) Henrickson of Mendota Heights; in-laws, Jean (Richard) Glumac of Sun City West, AZ; Dorothy Brown of Sioux Falls, SD; James and Kathy Anderson of North Branch; and many nieces and nephews.

Franklin is preceded in death by parents Percy and Avice, and brother Allan.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to: Our Savior’s Lutheran Church; Bethany Lutheran Church, Nevis; New Ulm FFA Chapter.
