Nicollet blanks St. Clair in Valley

NICOLLET – Nicollet defeated St. Clair 2-0 in a Valley Conference baseball game on Friday.

Jay Hendrycks got the win for the Raiders (4-1, 3-1 Valley), having struck out 14 batters while walking three in giving up one hit in a complete-game effort.

Matt Fischer, Matt Christenson and Gavin Thomsen each went 1-for-3 at the plate. Christenson and Thomsen each had one RBI.

Nicollet plays Comfrey/Cedar Mountain at 4:30 p.m. on Monday at Comfrey.

Wabasso 9, RRC-WWG 2

LAMBERTON – Wabasso scored seven runs the first two innings enroute to a win over Red Rock Central-Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Friday in a nonconference baseball game.

Josh Altermatt was the winning pitcher for Wabasso. Neil Eichten was 3-for-4 for the Rabbits. He scored two runs with two RBI’s Josh Altermatt went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk. William Klann went 1-for-4 with one run scored and two RBI’s.

Mitchell Jarmer was the losing pitcher for RRC-WWG.

Wabasso (3-4, 3-3) will play at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Tuesday.

New Ulm 11 ,

Worthington 0 (6 innings)

WORTHINGTON – New Ulm trounced Worthington on Friday in high school baseball action.

Tanner Kluis went the distance for the win. He gave up three hits, had no walks and he had 13 strikeouts.

Brach Kraus of New Ulm went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Jackson Yackley went 1-for-3 with a double. Grant Kanneigesser was 1-for-4 with three RBIs.

New Ulm (6-1, 2-0) will play at St. James next Tuesday.

Springfield 25, Comfrey/CM 5 (5 inn.)

Springfield 4, Comfrey/CM 2

COMFREY – Springfield scored 10 runs in the second inning and 13 runs in the fifth to beat Comfrey/Cedar Mountain 25-5 in a five-inning Tomahawk Conference baseball game before winning Game 2 of a doubleheader 4-2 on Friday.

In the first game, Cooper Scheffler went 4-for-6 with seven RBIs and three runs scored for the Tigers (9-0, 8-0 Tomahawk). Jacob Vanderwerf went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and four runs scored, while Nick Runck went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Andrew Richter led the Rockets (1-6, 1-5) with a 2-for-3 appearance at the plate with two RBIs and one run.

Scheffler tallied nine strikeouts in the win on the mound, while Drew Dallenbach got the loss.

In Game 2, Springfield reversed a 2-0 deficit with a four-run fifth inning en route to a 4-2 victory.

Jevan Richert got the win for Springfield, allowing two earned runs on three hits with seven strikeouts in a complete-game effort. Chandler Rose got the loss, allowing four runs – two earned – on three hits in five innings of work.

Springfield will play a doubleheader at New Ulm Cathedral next Thursday. Comfrey/CM hosts Nicollet in a nonconference game on Monday.
