Thunderbirds hold off Indians, MVL wins big

GFW 10, Sleepy Eye 7

FAIRFAX – Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop defeated Sleepy Eye on Monday in a Tomahawk Conference baseball game.

Tanner Wenninger was the winning pitcher. He pitched 3 2/3 innings, gave up one run, six hits, he had two strike outs and one walk. Nolan Huiras earned the save as he pitched 3 1/3 innings. Huiras went 2-for-3 and he hit one double. Zach Black went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Alex Bruggeman was the losing pitcher. He went 2 1/3 innings, gave up six runs on three hits, walked seven batters. He struck out two batters.

Bruggeman went 2-for-3 with one double and two RBIs. Brandon Polesky was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI’s.

GFW (3-4) will host New Ulm Cathedral on Thursday in a doubleheader. Sleepy Eye will host Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Thursday in a doubleheader.

MVL 12, Wabasso 0

MILROY – Minnesota Valley Lutheran defeated Wabasso 12-0 in a Tomahawk Conference baseball game on Monday.

Nick DeWanz got the win for the Chargers (3-5, 3-4 Tomahawk), allowing two hits while striking out eight batters in six innings pitched.

Freshman Nick Fischer went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and one run scored, while Chad Lease went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and one run scored. Jacob Mielke went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and four runs scored.

Dirk Pistulka got the loss for the Rabbits (4-6, 3-5), allowing seven hits, five runs and three earned with nine strikeouts.

MVL will host Sleepy Eye at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at Johnson Park. Wabasso plays at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Springfield.
