Tigers defeat Essig in TEL
Springfield 5, Essig 4
ESSIG – Springfield defeated Essig 5-4 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game on Sunday.
Isaac Kirschstein was the winning pitcher for the Tigers (1-0), having given up one earned run on three hits while striking out five in four innings pitched. Alex Frank got the save, striking out five while giving up two runs – one earned – in two innings pitched. Starter Jason Nachreiner also had five strikeouts.
Brandon Wilhelmi led the Tigers offensively with a 2-for-3 performance with one RBI. Pat Moriarty went 1-for-5 with an RBI double.
Jory Dove got the loss for the Bluejays (0-1) in two innings pitched. He was the third of four pitchers to see the mound.
Essig is at Sleepy Eye at 2 p.m. on Sunday and Springfield is at Stark at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Hanska 7, St. James 3
ST. JAMES – The Hanska Lakers scored four runs in the top half of the eighth inning to defeat the St. James A’s in TEL action on Sunday.
Dusty Wilfahrt was the winning pitcher. He went two innings in relief. Dayton Larson was the starter for Hanska, going four innings and allowing one run on four hits.
David Krause took the loss for the A’s, pitching in relief of starter Kyle Pinke.
Gabel Knowles was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a walk. Eric Portner had a double and two runs scored. Walker Froehling and Brady Mosenden also collected two hits apiece for Hanska.
For St. James, Austin Pinke went 3-for-5 with a run scored. Brandon Menssen had two hits.
Hanska hosts Lamberton at 2 p.m. on Sunday and St. James hosts Lamberton at 8 p.m., May 11.
