Knights win twice, Eagles top Waseca

WASECA – New Ulm edged Waseca on Tuesday in a South Central Conference high school baseball contest.

Andrew Stewart was the winning pitcher. He pitched seven innings, gave up two runs, four hits, and he struck out six batters.

Brach Kraus was 2-for-3 with one RBI. Judd Davis was 1-for-3 with a triple. Jackson Yackley, Chase Meyer and Tanner Kluis each had one hit for the Eagles.

New Ulm (4-1, 11-2) will travel to play at Blue Earth Area on Thursday.

St. Mary’s 10, LCWM 6

St. Mary’s 11, Cathedral 4

SLEEPY EYE – Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s picked up two wins in a split double-header on Tuesday defeating non-conference opponent Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial 10-6 and Tomahawk Conference opponent New Ulm Cathedral 11-4.

Kodan Kosak was the winning pitcher for the Knights in Game 1. He pitched six innings and gave up two runs on six hits, one walk and three strikeouts.

Brandon Helget was 3-for-3 with a double and a home run to lead the team offensively.

In Game 2, Mike Zinniel pitched a complete game to earn the win. He gave up four runs on six hits.

Russel Hoffman was the losing pitcher. He pitched four innings and gave up six runs, while striking out two batters for the Greyhounds.

John Brandl was 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Knights offensively.

Nathan Palmer, Mike Skillings and Brandon Beranek were all 1-for-3 for the Greyhounds.

St. Mary’s (9-2, 8-2) will play a doubleheader at Sleepy Eye on Thursday, while Cathedral (7-2, 7-2) travels to Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop for a double-header on Thursday.


Springfield 5, BLHS 1

HECTOR – Springfield defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 5-1 in a Tomahawk Conference baseball game on Monday.

The Tigers scored four runs in the second inning and one in the fifth to edge the Mustangs. Cooper Scheffler drove in two runs in the second, while Sam Baier and Nick Runck drove in one each.
