Johnson Park 75th celebration
To the editor:
Thank you for the Johnson Park 75th Birthday headline in Wednesday’s edition of The Journal.
Indeed, we are planning a birthday celebration for the grand old park on Saturday, June 21.
The day begins with a baseball game at Johnson Park between our amateur Brewers and Kaiserhoff teams. First pitch is at noon. Admission is free, beer and pop will be a buck, and there will be some great ballpark food, and prize drawings throughout the game. Fun facts and special recognitions will also be shared.
There have been 16 Champion New Ulm baseball teams from the high school, Legion/VFW, and men’s amateur levels over 75 years. The players and coaches from those teams have been invited for a special banquet at Turner Hall that day, beginning with social hour at 5pm. The New Ulm Legion and Amateur Hall of Fame members have also been invited, with the newest Amateur members being inducted that evening. A special historical presentation about Johnson Park and New Ulm baseball will be part of the program.
We want to thank our sponsors for helping to generously cover the costs of the event: August Schell Brewing, New Ulm Telcom, City of New Ulm, Citizens Bank, KNUJ, The Journal, New Ulm CVB, New Ulm Baseball Association, New Ulm Legion Baseball, and New Ulm Junior Baseball.
The banquet is open to the public, with 350 tickets being presold at $25 each. Tickets can be purchased by contacting Bob Skillings at 354-7593 or rskillings@
