PREP SOFTBALL: Sleepy Eye, St. Mary’s split series

SLEEPY EYE – Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s and Sleepy Eye split a doubleheader on Friday in Tomahawk Conference softball action.

Laura Pelzel was the winning pitcher in Game 1. She pitched seven innings, gave up one run on five hits and struck out five batters.

McKayla Alrich was the losing pitcher giving up six runs, four hits, striking out three and walking four batters in three innings.

Ashley Helget was 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI for St. Mary’s. Natalie Stevens went 1-for-2 with a home run and one RBI for Sleepy Eye.

Carly Jensen of Sleepy Eye was the winning pitcher in Game 2. She went 6 1/3 innings, gave up three runs on four hits.

Anna Lux was the losing pitcher. She was on the mound for four innings, gave up five runs on six hits, struck out four and walked two.

Karissa Fleck was 1-for-3 in Game 2 with a home run and one RBI for St. Mary’s. Josie Schieffert was 1-for-3 for Sleepy Eye with a run scored, a home run, one walk and two RBIs.

St. Mary’s (9-5, 8-5) will host Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity on Monday. Sleepy Eye will host Wabasso in a doubleheader on Saturday.

New Ulm 7, Fairmont 1

FAIRMONT – New Ulm downed Fairmont on Friday in a South Central Conference softball game.

Tori Botten was the winning pitcher. She went five innings, gave up one hit, struck out five and walked one.

Brittany Denn missed the cycle as she went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and a home run. She also had two RBis.

Ellie Schneider went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. Brianna Sieve went 2-for-3 with a double, one run scored and one stolen base.

New Ulm (8-4) will play on Monday in a doubleheader in New Ulm. New Ulm will play St. James at 4:30 p.m. and Waseca at 7:30 p.m.

Alden-Conger 13, Madelia/Truman 2 (6 inn.)

TRUMAN – Alden-Conger scored six runs in the first two innings en route to a Valley Conference win against Madelia/Truman on Friday.

Beth Kotewa was the losing pitcher. She pitched 3 1/3 innings, gave up nine hits, 10 runs, walked two and struck out five.

Savannah Hodge was 1-for-2 with a hit and one RBI. Stephanie Jahnz was 1-for-1 with one RBI for Madelia/Truman.

Madelia-Truman (4-9, 2-3) will host Mankato Loyola on Monday in Madelia.

Martin Luther/GHEC 16, Comfrey/CM 12

COMFREY – Martin Luther/GHEC defeated Comfrey/Cedar Mountain 16-12 in a nonconference softball game on Friday.

Brianna Treml got the loss, giving up six hits and striking out four batters.

Beth Schumacher went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and Cassidy Gode went 3-for-3.

C/CM will host Minnesota Valley Lutheran for a doubleheader at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
