PREP BASEBALL: Wabasso beats Sleepy Eye in 5

Wabasso 15, Sleepy Eye 5 (5 inn.)

MILROY – Wabasso defeated Sleepy Eye 15-5 in five innings in a Tomahawk Conference baseball game on Saturday.

Neil Eichten got the win for the Rabbits, having given up five runs – four earned – off five hits in five innings pitched. Sam Tessmer got the loss with four of his 10 surrendered runs registering as earned.

For Wabasso, Nick Altermatt went 2-for-3 with a double and Eichten went 1-for-3 with a double and three runs scored.

Sam Hirschboeck hit a solo home run for Sleepy Eye to cap off a 2-for-3 stand at the plate. Brandon Polesky was also 2-for-3 with two runs scored.


St. Mary’s 15, Sleepy Eye 14 (11 inn.)

St. Mary’s 6, Sleepy Eye 5

SLEEPY EYE – Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s swept crosstown rival Sleepy Eye in one-run victories in a Tomahawk Conference doubleheader on Friday.

In Game 1, Jon Kopacek hit a solo home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Knights over the top in the 15-14 victory. Kopacek was 2-for-7 on the day and also got the win on the mound in a five-inning relief effort.

David Surprenant went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a home run for St. Mary’s.

Alex Bruggemant went 2-for-6 with two doubles and four RBIs, while Austin Fischer went 2-for-5 with four RBIs for Sleepy Eye.

In Game 2, Mike Hirsch got the win for St. Mary’s despite giving up nine hits and five earned runs in 6 1/3 innings pitched. He had 14 strikeouts and nine walks.

Bruggeman got the loss in 1/3 innings of work, giving up three earned runs and three walks.

Colin Hoffmann went 1-for-2 with a solo home run for St. Mary’s, while Brandon Helget went 2-for-3 with a double and one run.

Tessmer went 2-for-2 with one RBI and Hirschboeck went 4-for-4 with one run.
