New Ulm picks up 2 wins on rainy Monday
NEW ULM – The New Ulm softball team weathered the gloomy drizzle that coated Monday evening with a 10-0 victory against St. James Area before beating Waseca 10-0 – both in five innings.
“They played out of their minds,” said New Ulm coach Kristi Andersen Loose.
In the first game, the Eagles (10-4, 7-0 South Central) scored two runs in the first with Ellie Schneider blasting a double that drove in Rachel Strandmark, who drove in leadoff hitter Abby Kamm from third after a stolen base and a passed ball.
Tori Botten held the Saints (4-10, 2-4) to two hits in receiving the win in the circle. She also had six strikeouts in the game.
New Ulm scored three runs in the third and fourth innings before putting the game away with runs from Katie Forst and Brianna Sieve in the bottom of the fifth.
Schneider started the Eagles’ scoring in Game 2 with a solo home run over the left-field fence. She finished the game 2-for-3.
The Eagles mustered up six runs – five scored by the bottom of the lineup – on four hits in the second inning to take a 7-0 lead en route to the 10-0 victory against the Bluejays (6-6, 2-4).
