NEW ULM – Donald Schoneman, 97, of New Ulm, died Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 17, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, NORTH CHAPEL, in New Ulm with Chaplain Katie Menne officiating.

Donald is survived by his daughter, Mari Childrey (Jim Kearney) of Lake Lillian; grandsons, Robert S. (Julie) Childrey of New Ulm , Chris (Katie) Childrey of Rochester; great-grandchildren, Melanie & Nicholas Childrey, Mikele ( Robyn Stark), Matthew, Megan Penkert; sister Alice Stone of Comfrey; brother-in law and sister-in-law, Jay and Joyce Smith of Redwing; nieces; and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; brothers, William Schoneman and Lyle Schoneman; and a sister, Hilda Ramsey.
Donald S. Schoneman was born on January 22, 1917 to John M. and Jessie (Carter) Schoneman in Delton Township, Cottonwood County. He attended rural school. He married Doris M. Smith on September 4, 1939. They farmed and later owned S & H building Supply and Carpet Shop in Jeffers and Delft. In 1979 they retired to Florida. In 2006 he moved back to Minnesota to be close to his family. Donald enjoyed reading, gardening, watching the Twins, and the last couple of summers playing cards with the great-grandchildren on Thursdays.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the New Ulm Special Olympics or the donor’s choice.
