Margaret Johnson

Margaret Johnson, 93, of New Ulm, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Ridgeway on German in New Ulm.

A funeral service will be 12 p.m., Saturday, May 17, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska with Pastor Sarah Taylor officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Lake Crystal Cemetery following the luncheon at the church.

Margaret is survived by her children, Joanne (Michael) Stadther of Carver and Richard (Susan) Johnson of Chippewa Falls, WI; grandchildren, Kate (Carl) Petterson and their child, Lucy of Minneapolis, Rachel (Eric) Krista and their child, Henry of Chippewa Falls, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert C. Johnson, Jr. on January 30, 2003; and brother, Robert Dow.

Margaret Tasker Dow was born February 18, 1921 to James and Georgina (Ogilvie) Dow in Dundee, Scotland. At the age of nine, Margaret moved to Minneapolis making her way via Ellis Island. She graduated from Minneapolis Central High School. She was united in marriage to Herbert C. Johnson, Jr. on April 29, 1946 in Minneapolis after he was discharged following WWII. After their marriage, they lived in Brooten and Waseca. In 1949, they made their home in Hanska. The couple purchased E.E. Nelson Furniture Store & Funeral Home renaming it the Johnson Furniture Store & Funeral Home. Margaret was a homemaker who raised her loving children and would help in the furniture store. In 1998, the couple moved to New Ulm. In 2003, after Herbert passed away. Margaret lived at Ridgeway on German. Margaret loved to read, do crossword puzzles, and watch Wheel of Fortune. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and being a den mother for the Boy Scouts. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska and the American Legion Auxiliary.
