Lager Lauf draws nearly 1,000 runners
NEW ULM-Schell’s Brewery hosted the Third Annual Lager Lauf on Saturday.
An estimated 950 runners participated in either the 6K or 12K run through the trails of Flandrau State Park. The age of the runners ranged from nine to 83.
The Lager Lauf brings in runners from all over the area, both professional and amateur. For the professional runners looking to break, a personal best special RFID technology was available to accurately keep track of time.
Both the 6K and 12K were followed by a finish-line celebration at the brewery. Some began the celebrating before finishing the race. Beer stops were positioned along the race route for those with proper wristband identification.
The overall winner of the 6K was Chris Wenner (17) with a time of 24:03. Chris Gordon (39) took second with a time of 24:40. Brad Wollum (23) finished third with a time of 24:50.
The overall winner in the 12K was Andrea Vaubel (28) with a time of 39:02. Jim Parekjo (29) placed paced second with a time of 41:18. Breau Ness (25) took third with a time of 42:14.
Awards were presented to first, second, and third place finishers in each age bracket. Since the race was hosted at the brewery, each medal doubled as a bottle opener.
