Springfield wins big over Wabasso

MILROY – Springfield took advantage of six errors as it crushed Wabasso on Monday in Tomahawk Conference baseball action.

With the win, the Tigers clinched at least a share of the Tomahawk Conference title. New Ulm Cathedral plays at Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart Tuesday and if Cathedral wins, Cathedral and Springfield tie for the Conference title at 15-2.

Cooper Scheffler was the winning pitcher. He pitched five innings and gave up eight hits. He walked one batter and he struck out six. Scheffler was 2-for-4 from the plate with a single, two doubles and four RBIs.

Tim Krueger was 1-for-2 for the Tigers. He had a single and one walk. Brandon Flock was 3-for-4 with two singles, two RBIs and a walk.

Beau Taylor was the losing pitcher going 2 1/3 innings. He gave up four hits, walked one and he struck out one. He hit three batters.

Neil Eichten was 2-for-3 for Wabasso. He had three singles and one RBI. Caleb Salfer was 3-for-3 with two singles, a double and one RBI.

Springfield will play at Redwood Valley Tuesday.

BEA 3, St. Mary’s 2

BLUE EARTH – Blue Earth Area edged Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Monday in a nonconference baseball game.

Mike Hirsch was the losing pitcher. He went six innings and gave up three runs, struck out four and walked one.

Brandon Helget was 1-for-3 with one RBI. Jay Helget was 1-for-3. John Brandl went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

St. Mary’s (15-4) will host Minneapolis Southwest today.

New Ulm 6, SJA 0

ST. JAMES – New Ulm earned at least a share of the South Central Conference title on Monday when it defeated St. James Area.

New Ulm scored three runs in first inning, two runs in the fourth inning and one run in fifth.

Chase Meyer pitched six innings for the win. He gave up no runs, four hits, struck out six and he walked one batter. Meyer was 3-for-4 batting.

Judd Davis went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Grant Kannegiesser was 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI. Tanner Kluis went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Alex Stark was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

New Ulm (16-3, 9-1) will play Worthington at Mueller Park at 11 a.m. Saturday in the first round of the Section 3AA tournament.

LCWM 10, Cathedral 9

LAKE CRYSTAL – Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial nipped New Ulm Cathedral on Monday in a nonconference baseball game.

Mike Skillings was the losing pitcher. He pitched one inning, gave up one run, one hit, struck out one and he intentionally walked one batter.

Nathan Palmer was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Collin Helget was 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Brandon Beranek was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and one RBI.

New Ulm Cathedral (14-3) will travel to play Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart Tuesday.
