Cathedral rolls all over BLHS, Tigers win

HECTOR – New Ulm Cathedral crushed Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday in the regular season finale for the Greyhounds.

Colin Helget was the winning pitcher for New Ulm Cathedral and Trey Weispferrig was the losing pitcher.

Kyle Kubesh had a triple for BLHS. Gabe Knowles went 4-for-4 with four RBIs. Brandon Beranek went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a solo home run. James Herzog was 2-for-4.

New Ulm Cathedral (14-2, 15-4) will play the winner of the Sleepy Eye-BLHS game at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Johnson Park.

Springfield 7,

Redwood Valley 3

REDWOOD FALLS – Springfield defeated Redwood Valley 7-3 in a nonconference baseball game on Tuesday.

Tim Krueger gave up five hits and three runs (two earned) with four strikeouts and two walks in two innings pitched to get the win on the mound for the Tigers. Sam Baier got the save.

Cooper Scheffler and Dylan Wersal both went 2-for-2 with one RBI each for the Tigers. Scheffler also had two runs scored.

Cody Anderson got the loss for the Cardinals, having given up six walks, six runs with four earned on four hits in 2 2/3 innings pitched. Ryan Bassett had five strikeouts in 4 1/3 on the mound.

Jordan Opdahl led the Cardinals at the plate, having gone 3-for-4 with one run scored.

Top-seeded Springfield will play the winner of No. 8-seeded Tracy-Milroy-Balaton and No. 9-seeded Southwest Star Concept in the first round of the Section 3A playoffs at 11 a.m. on Saturday at home.

Nicollet 5, ML/GHEC/T 4 (9 innings)

NICOLLET – Colin Bloemke hit a single in the bottom of the ninth inning that scored Marshall Barrer to help Nicollet down Martin Luther/Granada Huntley-East Chain/Truman in the regular season finale game for Valley Conference baseball.

Bloemke was the winning pitcher. He pitched five innings, gave up no runs. one hit, and he struck out three batters. Bloemke was 1-for-3 with one RBI. Carter Struck was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Nicollet (5-3, 9-5) will host Lester Prairie-Holy Trinity at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the first round of the Sub-Section 2A, North Subsection tournament.

SESM 12, Minneapolis Southwest 2 (5 innings)

SLEEPY EYE – Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s cruised past Minneapolis Southwest on Tuesday in a nonconference baseball game.

David Surprenant was the winning pitcher as he went the distance giving up two runs on seven hits and he struck out five batters. He was 3-for-4 batting.

For the Knights, Brandon Helget went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and two RBIs. Mike Hirsch went 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Jon Kopacek went 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI.

St. Mary’s (16-4) will host Minnesota Valley Lutheran at 1 p.m. Saturday in the first round of the Section 2A, North Subsection playoffs
