Wabasso splits games in Section 3A playoffs

WABASSO – The Wabasso softball team beat Windom Area in the first round of the Section 3A playoffs before falling to Murray County Central to drop to the loser’s bracket.
In the first game, Callie Rohlik gave up two hits with six strikeouts in getting the win for the Rabbits. Alison Benz was 4-for-4 (two singles, a double and triple) with three RBIs, while Shelby Taylor was 2-for-2 with one RBI and two runs scored.
In the 5-3 loss to Murray County Central in the South Subsection quarterfinals, Wabasso left 13 runners on base. Rohlik gave up four earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts in getting the loss.
Wabasso will play MACCRAY at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Cottonwood. The winner will play the loser of the game between Edgerton/Ellsworth and Dawson-Boyd, who play immediately after that game.
Springfield 3, Southwest Star Concept 2 (10 inn.)
Edgerton/Ellsworth 10, Springfield 0 (5 inn.)
EDGERTON – Springfield beat Southwest Star Concept 3-2 in a 10-inning game before getting beat by top-seeded Edgerton/Ellsworth 10-0 in five innings in the opening games of the Section 3A South Subsection playoffs on Tuesday.
In the first game, Molly Dunn got the win having given up two earned runs on five hits with seven walks and 13 strikeouts in 10 innings of work. Sonja Fiedler went 2-for-5 with an RBI, while Jenny Thoreson went 2-for-5 with an RBI, one run scored and a double.
In the second game, Thoreson, Natalie Timm and Kelsey Platz all went 1-for-2 for the Tigers. Timm got the loss having given up 10 runs (nine earned) on 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings pitched.
Springfield will play BOLD at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Cottonwood. The winner will play the loser between Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg and Murray County Central.
