SPRINGFIELD – Norbert Sturm age 91, of Springfield died on May 22, 2014, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Springfield.
Services will be held at the St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springfield on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at 10:30 a.m.
The clergy will be Father Phil Schotzko. Interment will be at the St. Raphael’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Monday, May 26, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield Chapel and will continue on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springfield. There will be a Parish Prayer Service and Rosary on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield.

Norbert Otto Sturm was born on Oct. 18, 1922, in Leavenworth Township, the son of John and Mary (Helget) Sturm, and raised on a farm southeast of Springfield. He attended country school in Leavenworth Township and later boarding school at St. Raphael’s in Springfield.
Norbert was united in marriage to Bernice Braulick on Feb. 12, 1945. After marriage, he lived, farmed, and raised his family in Leavenworth Township, remaining on the farm until 1997. He then moved to Springfield, where he resided until his passing. He was a lifelong member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, where he served on the parish council. He also served on the Leavenworth Township board for many years.
Norbert enjoyed farming, gardening, hunting in his early years, later fishing with his grandsons and spending time with all of his grandchildren. He enjoyed holiday gatherings with his family. He enjoyed watching all sports, especially baseball, which he both played and managed in Leavenworth. He also enjoyed playing cards and visiting with friends at Fritz’s, bird watching, and was an avid reader.
Norbert is survived by his wife of 69 years, Bernice of Springfield; sons, John (Sharon) Sturm of Aitkin, and Dick (Alicia) Sturm of Springfield; daughters, Beverly Sturm (special friend Arthur Washington) of Oklahoma City, OK, and Colleen (Pat) Windschitl of Springfield. He is survived by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Norbert was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Sturm, brother Lloyd Sturm, sister Viola Seidl, and granddaughter Tiffini Sturm.
He will be deeply missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him!
