NEW ULM – LeRoy Wenninger, 86, of New Ulm died Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Woodstone Senior Living in New Ulm.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Timothy Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm with full military honors being conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday and from 7:30-8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Wednesday. LeRoy is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Randall and Monica Wenninger, Jeffery and Trudie Wenninger all of New Ulm; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a very special friend, Darlane Krohn of New Ulm. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Bessie Wenninger on Jan. 24, 2009.
LeRoy Edward Wenninger was born on July 9, 1927 in New Ulm to Edwin and Minnie (Kiecker) Wenninger. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. On June 25, 1948 he was united in marriage to Bessie Johnson at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. They lived in New Ulm and he owned and operated the Northside Grocery in New Ulm. Later he worked for Dannheim’s Dairy and then worked for International Multi-Foods both in New Ulm. LeRoy enjoyed golfing, raising pigeons, showing pigeons, and traveling. He was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, the American Legion Post #132, VFW Post # 1648, and the D.A.V. Chapter 15.
