NEW ULM – Leonard Breu, 86, of New Ulm died Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2014 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL with Pastor Richard Breu officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to services at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Military Honors will be by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor. Leonard is survived by his children, Diane (Rollie) Holstein of New Ulm, Richard (Kathy) Breu of McAllen, TX., Robert Breu of Fairbault; 12 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hilda Breu on November 23, 2011; siblings, Theresa Johns, Willard Breu, and Joseph Breu, Jr.
Leonard William Breu was born December 25, 1927 to Joseph and Martha (Hamann) Breu in Searles. He attended New Ulm Public High school. On March 15, 1946, Leonard was united in marriage to Hilda Wieland in Mankato. Leonard worked for the Valley Grain Company and Puhlman Lumber in New Ulm. He retired from Puhlman Lumber in 1990 after 24 years of work. Leonard and Hilda enjoyed traveling, especially to the Southwest. He also loved going to Jackpot. He was a talented woodworker who built, created, and remodeled many things. Leonard was a member of the American Legion.
