Late surge lifts Essig by Indians
ESSIG – Essig scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat Sleepy Eye 9-8 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game on Sunday.
Kyle Helget notched the game-tying RBI single in the bottom of the ninth, which opened it up for the Bluejays to solidify their comeback. Helget finished 2-for-5 on the day, while Erich Prokosch went 1-for-5 with a three-run double in the sixth.
Tim Kehren went 3-for-5 with an RBI and Kyle Krzmarzick went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
Kehren got the win for the Bluejays in 2/3 innings pitched. Jordan Guggisberg got the no-decision in going 2 2/3 innings, while Jory Dove pitched 5 2/3 innings in relief.
Matt Helget got the loss for Sleepy Eye, having given up four unearned runs on four hits in 1 2/3 innings pitched. Sean Mathiowetz got the no-decision in seven innings pitched.
Alan Woitas went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, while Scott Salfer went 2-for-5 with three RBIs for the Indians.
