Flying Dutchmen Summer Party
NEW ULM – The Flying Dutchmen Motorcycle Club will hold its 3rd annual Summer Party and Cruise-In on Saturday, June 21 at the Flying Dutchmen Clubgrounds.
Gates open at noon. There will be live music starting at 2 p.m. and going through midnight, with three bands on the outdoor stage.
The grills will be fired up with brats and burgers available. Beverages will be abvailable. No coolers or outside beveragess are allowed on the club grounds.
There will be arts and crafts vendors, with games and prizes throughout the day.
Must be 21 or older. Admission is $5. Free admission for all classic cars, motorcycles and rat rods before 2 p.m. Free camping is available on the club grounds.
The Flying Dutchmen club is located south of New Ulm. From Highway 15 Sotuh, go east on Hwy. 68 for two miles, then left on 110th Avenue. Watch for the signs.
Junior Pioneers Summer Picnic
NEW ULM – The Junior Pioneers of the New Ulm Area will hold their annual summer picnic on Tuesday, June 24 at 6 p.m. The Picnic will be at the Junior Pioneer Park, just off the entrance road to Schell’s Brewery. Please bring a dish to pass! Rain location is Turner Hall.
Elena Kretschmer, the 2014 Hans Joohs Exchange Intern from Gnzburg, Germany, will be a special guest of honor.

Bluegrass Music at Harkin Store
WEST NEWTON – Carver Creek Bluegrass, (formerly known as Monson Family Bluegrass) a family band of five siblings, is known for delightful performances of bluegrass, old time, gospel and Irish music using a variety of instruments, the typical banjo, guitar, bass and fiddle and some unusual ones, like the bodran (goat-skin drum) and musical saw.
The Harkin Store is glad to have the family back again. They will play from 1 to 4 pm on Sunday, June 22. Come enjoy the afternoon, bring a lawn chair or enjoy the porch. The family will have their CD’s for sale.
The Harkin Store is located nine miles northwest of New Ulm on Nicollet County Road 21, or the bottom road, or nine miles east of Fort Ridgely.
Swedefest at Bernadotte June 21
LAFAYETTE – Bernadotte Lutheran Church of rural Lafayette will host its 20th annual “Swedefest” Saturday, June 21. The event includes family entertainment, Swedish smorgasbord, quilt raffle, a silent auction, horse-drawn wagon rides, and more. Activities begin at 4 p.m. Visitors are invited to come early to enjoy the outdoor church park and the park’s new bandstand.
The entertainment lineup includes the Little Prairie Pickers at 4:30 p.m. and the Ken & Ken Show at 5:30 pm. The evening will conclude with the closing of the silent auction and quilt raffle at 7:30 p.m., followed by a short devotional service.
The smorgasbord features Swedish meatballs and pork loins, along with many ethnic favorites. Serving time is 4 to 7 p.m.
Swedefest is held at the Bernadotte Lutheran Church Park, four-and-a-half miles east of Lafayette on Nicollet County #1, then one mile north on Nicollet County #10 (515th Avenue). In case of inclement weather, events will be moved to the church.
McFundraiser at McDonald’s for
Brown County Humane Society
NEW ULM – The Brown County Humane Society is partnering with McDonald’s in New Ulm to hold a McFundraiser Night at McDonald’s on Wednesday, June 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. A percentage of sales and 100 percent of the tips will benefit the Brown County Humane Society.
There will be a number of door prizes given away at the June 26 event, which include Humane Society T-Shirts and Cookbook.
Weather permitting, some of the Humane Society dog and/or cats in the McDonald’s parking lot to greet customers.
The Brown County Humane Society is a non-profit organization that depends on income generated by fundraisers and private donations.
