Schmitz leads All-Journal boys

Kelton Schmitz, sr.,

New Ulm

Schmitz placed third at the conference meet and was both the subsection and section medalist for the Eagles before placing seventh at state. He medaled in seven events total this season to earn his sixth varsity letter. Schmitz had a 9-hole average of 37.8 this season.

Tanner Zupfer, sr.,

New Ulm

Zupfer, a four-year letterwinner, posted a season average of 41.1 and finished 10th in the conference meet. He also medaled at New Ulm’s home meet this season.

Ben Laffen, 8th,

Sleepy Eye

Laffen was named the Tomahawk Conference Player of the Year as an eighth-grader. He shot an 18-hole average of 88 this season and missed his first state berth by 1 stroke.

Ethan Kraus, so.,

New Ulm

Kraus placed fourth at the conference meet and had a season-low score of 74. The sophomore is a three-year letterwinner. He averaged a 39.4 on the season and was a member of the 2013 State tournament team.

Tristan Pietig, sr.,

Cedar Mountain

Pietig posted a 9-hole average score of 44.7 this season and was the leading scorer for Cedar Mountain on its way to becoming the Tomahawk Conference co-champions. He was a three-time All-Conference selection and a four-time section qualifier.

Jacob Grunewald, sr., MVL

Grunewald led the Charger boys this season, shooting a season average score of 91 and earning All-Conference honors. He missed state by 1 stroke at the Section 2A meet.
