Heavy rains cause damage in New Ulm

Street crews in New Ulm were busy Thursday dealing with the aftermath of the heavy rains that have been falling on Southern Minnesota.

Highway 13 south of New Ulm was closed after a storm sewer structure broke under the pressure of the water and created a 15-foot-deep hole next to the roadway. Crews were busy clearing trees from mudslides along the highway as well.

In New Ulm, high water washed across Cottonwood Street, forcing the closing of the Cottonwood Bridge. A mud slide on 5th North Street, across from the Way of the Cross, had street crews busy cleaning up the mud and clearing trees that had been dislodged.
