NU Red takes third in 16U play
NEW ULM – The New Ulm Red 16U softball team went 2-1 for the second day in a row, winning the third-place game on Sunday at Harman Park.
Red came from behind in Game 1 to beat the St. Peter Thunder 5-4.
Emma Bute hit a double that scored Anna Mohr and Rachel Kehren for Red to tie the game 2-2.
St. Peter scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to regain the lead 4-2, but Red countered with three runs of its own in the bottom of the seventh to win 5-4.
Anna Mohr got the game-winning hit as she drove in Megan Hulke and Bergan Forst for the winning runs.
Mohr was the winning pitcher in Game 1. She pitched one inning, gave up two runs on two hits and struck out one batter.
Forst was 2-for-4 and Bute went 2-for-3.
Red’s second contest was against North St. Paul, which came from behind to win 4-3.
Forst scored the game’s first run in the top of the second inning. Hulke scored Red’s second run in the fourth inning. Forst scored another run to give Red a 3-0 lead.
North St. Paul took advantage of a walk and that runner scored on a double to cut Red’s lead to 3-1.
The Polars got a leadoff single in the fifth inning before a two-run home run with one out tied the game at 3-3.
A walk, a wild pitch and a single scored the game-winning run for North St. Paul in its half of the sixth inning for the 4-3 win.
“We couldn’t get timely hitting with runners on base (against North St. Paul),” said Red coach Kelli Bolduan.
Mohr took the loss in the second game. She went six innings, gave up four runs, and struck out four.
Hulke went 3-for-3 and Kehren was 2-for-3.
“We won one, lost one and we came back strong to win the last one,” Bolduan said.
Red beat Annandale 8-0 to place third.

Forst scored Red’s second run on a double by Kehren. Kehren scored on a double by Bute to give Red an early 3-0 lead.
Ramsi Forst hit a leadoff single. She scored on a double by Hulke, who scored on a single by Bergen Forst. Forst scored on a triple by Mohr. Kehren walked and she stole second. Bute single scored both Mohr and Kehren to make the score 8-0.
Taylor Bolduan was the winning pitcher in Game 3. She pitched three innings, gave up no runs on four hits and had 3 strikeouts.
“It was a good week. We found out who we are and I hope it leads to more wins for the rest of the season,” Kelli Bolduan said.
