Wayzata wins big over VFW Silver

NEW ULM – Wayzata scored 11 runs in the third inning and five in the first as it defeated New Ulm VFW Silver 20-0 in five innings at the Junior Upper Midwest Classic Friday at Johnson Park.

A.J. Buboltz took the loss for Silver. He gave up 10 runs in two innings.

Jordan Hillesheim and Jackson had the only hits for VFW Silver.

Donny Schroeder earned the win for Wayzata. He pitched four innings and allowed two hits.

Schroeder had a two-run single in the first to put Wayzata up 5-0 at that point. Two innings later, the Wizards sent 17 batters to the plate as they scored 11 runs. Wayzata added three more runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth for the final scoring.

Wayzata plays Luverne at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mueller Park and Sleepy Eye at 3:30 p.m. at Mueller Park.

New Ulm plays Mankato at 11 a.m. Saturday at Johnson Park and Luverne at 4:30 p.m. at Johnson Park.
