New Ulm firefighters were called to a fire at 716 1st North St. at about 3:50 p.m. Monday. Fire Chief Paul Macho said the fire, which damaged the back porch of the residence, was caused by improper extinguishing of smoking materials. Nobody was injured in the fire. Several fire trucks were on the scene for about 25 minutes.
On Friday, July 4, firefighters were called to the AMPI Corporate Office, 315 N. Broadway, at about noon for a fire caused by a back-up power system that caught fire. Nobody was injured.
