Bullheads lose to St. Peter
ST PETER – On Wednesday evening the Searles Bullheads traveled to St. Peter to take on the the 2013 defending Class AA 35-and-over state tournament champions, but St. Peter won the game 6-2.
Searles wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard. In the first inning Troy Kamm led off with a double and scored on Corey Schaefer’s RBI single. Despite getting nine hits for the game, the Bullheads scored just one more run in the contest. That run came in the fourth inning as Doug Ekstrom, who singled, scored on an infield out by Todd Hulke.
Meanwhile, the St. Peter Saints, one of the premier teams in the River Valley League, put together a pair of runs in the first, third, and fourth innings to win by a final score of 6-2. Kurt Moelter, who pitched all seven innings for the Saints, also had two of their nine hits. St Peter stopped several potential rallies by the Bullheads with three double plays in the game.
Craig Schmitz pitched the first five innings for Searles, walking two and striking out one. Cory Haala pitched the 6th inning, giving up one hit and striking out one. Brian Sieve led Searles in hitting, getting three singles in his three at-bats. Schaefer had two hits.
The Searles Bullheads (3-4) return to action this upcoming weekend with a pair of home games. They play at 2 p.m. on Saturday when they take on the Shoreview Bombers. Then at 4 p.m. on Sunday the Shakopee Chiefs come to Searles.
