First United Methodist Church celebrates ordination of Pastor Taylor
NEW ULM – First United Methodist Church of New Ulm, celebrated the ordination of Rev. Jo Anne Taylor during worship on Sunday, July 13.
Taylor was ordained by the Evangelical Covenant Church on June 28, at the denomination’s annual conference in Chicago. Bishop Bruce Ough, of the United Methodist Conference of Minnesota and the Dakotas, appointed Taylor last August to serve as pastor of First United Methodist Church.
“It may seem strange to have a Covenant pastor serving in a Methodist church,” Taylor said in a press release, “but God moves in mysterious ways. I’m very grateful to be here. It’s a wonderful congregation, and God is doing great things in and through us as we work together.”
One highlight of the ordination service was the singing of a new hymn, co-written by Covenant pastor Geoff Twigg and Taylor. On Sunday, Taylor introduced this hymn to the First UMC congregation. She sang the first three stanzas to them, and invited them to join in the final stanza as a celebration of ministry together.
Before her appointment in New Ulm, Taylor was music and worship pastor at Bethlehem Covenant Church and taught vocal music at Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis.Taylor and her husband Bruce live in New Ulm, where he works as a substitute teacher in addition to supporting ministry efforts at the church.
