Madelia 5K winners announced

MADELIA – The Madelia Community Hospital Foundation and Anderson Race Management teamed up to provide the Madelia River Run/Walk 5K and Kids Run in Madelia, Minn. on Saturday, July 12.

The purpose for hosting the race is to promote health and wellness and to get people active while enjoying the Madelia Park Days celebration. Racers between the ages of 2 and 76 walked or ran in the beautiful river setting.

The female overall winner was Jodi Hruby of Alexandria, S.D., with a time of 21:20. The men’s overall winner was Mark Jacobs, 17 of Lake Crystal, with a time of 18:20.

There were four teams that competed in this year’s race. The Madelia Community Hospital & Clinic (MCHC) team won the team competition. Members of MCHC Team include: Alex Cooling, Caleb Arndt, Josh Henry, Jim Hitchcock, Jamie Hitchcock, Katie Osborn, Aryn Dick, Aubrey Dick, Megan Grossman, Heather Simpson, Sue Kelsey, Jodi Ulmen, Laura Mayer, Denny Mayer, Marie Schneeberger, and Mike Schneeberger. Downs Food Group won the award for the largest team to compete with 34 team members signed up to race.

Winners of their age categories were:

Age 1-19:

Female winner: Elizabeth Beckman of Lake Crystal; Male winner: Mark Jacobs of Lake Crystal

Age 20-29:

Female winner: Liz Eser, West Concord, MN; Male winner: Alex Cooling, Madelia

Age 30-39

Female winner: Jodi Hruby of Alexandria, SD; Male winner: Nathaniel Feder of North Mankato

Age 40-49:

Female winner: Gwynne Gutzke of New Ulm; Male winner: Paul Gutzke of New Ulm

Age 50-59

Female winner: Peggy Frederickson of Hanska; Male winner: Steve Morrow of Eagle Lake

Age 60-69

Female winner: Sue Kelsey of Madelia; Male winner: David Pettersen of Madelia
