Victor Bernard Helget, Sr.
NEW ULM – Victor Bernard Helget, Sr., age 91 of New Ulm died on July 18, 2014 at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Visitation will be on Monday, July 21, 2014 from 8:30 am to 10:30 am at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church-Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church-Sleepy Eye, on Monday, July 21, 2014 at 10:30 am.
The clergy will be Msgr. Eugene Lozinski.
Interment will be at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.
Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.

Victor Bernard Helget was born September 30, 1922 on a farm in Stark Township, Brown County to Otto and Clara (Haala) Helget. He attended country school District 45 until the 8th grade and then began farming with his father. He lived on the family farm for 25 years then moved to a farm south of Cobden. Victor was united in marriage to Caroline Schiller on May 31, 1945. The couple farmed until retiring in 1987 when the children took over the farming. Caroline died in December of 1992. Victor married Valeria Schiller on May 5, 1995 and the couple has lived in New Ulm since their marriage. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye and served on the District 28 school board until it’s closing. Victor coached youth baseball at Stark, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports and playing cards.
He is survived by wife Valeria of New Ulm; children- Patrick of Belgrade, LaVonne (Peter) Johansen of St. Peter, Virgil of Sleepy Eye, Jane (Steve) Eckstein of Sleepy Eye, Curt of Sleepy Eye, Audrey (Neal) Jacobsen of Sleepy Eye, Victor, Jr. (Sandy) of Sleepy Eye, and David (Tammy) of Sleepy Eye; step-children- Les (Pat) Helget of New Ulm, Judy (Jim) Landkammer of Chanhassen, Roman, Jr. (Joyce) Schiller of New Ulm, Lonnie (Marlys) Schiller of New Ulm, Connie Zeck of Mankato, Debbie (Doug) Nesbitt of Chaska, and Peggy (Kevin) Henke of Gaylord; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Agnes Helget of Sleepy Eye. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Caroline; and brothers- Wendelin, Alvin, Sylvester and Delmar.
