German Park Concert in the Park Series July 21 at 7 p.m. Entertainment provided by The Little Prairie Pickers. This concert is being co-sponsored by the New Ulm Public Library. FREE Cycling Class for Rec Center members on Mondays in July at 5:30 p.m. This is a GREAT opportunity to try out cycling for FREE. Non-members pay a $6 fee.
Pictures in the Park Kid’s Photo Contest Co-sponsored by Southpoint Federal Credit Union. July is National Park and Recreation Month. We invite you to discover our local parks and take pictures doing it! The contest has different age groups and categories for multiple winners. This program is open to youth ages 5-16, broke down by age groups and subject categories. For a complete listing of the Photo Contest Rules, go to our website at www.ci.new-ulm.mn.us
1st Annual Team Cardboard Boat Race – Teams of 2 will build their own boat constructed from cardboard boxes and duct tape, then bring their boat to the Rec. Center pool and compete against other teams. There will be two age groups: Group 1 will be Ages 9-18 and Group 2 will be ages 19 and older. Boats may be a maximum width of 60″ (5 feet) and a maximum length of 84″ (7 feet). There is no max height restriction, other than it must be able to get in to the building. Boats shall be designed to race with a two person crew that will start at one end of the pool and race to the other end and back.
The race will be held Wednesday, Aug. 6 at 5:30 p.m. All entrants must Pre-Register at the Rec. Center by July 23 Cost is $14/Res. or $15.40/Non Res. Fee includes t-shirt, admission to the race at 5:30 p.m. and open swim at 7 p.m.
National Dance Day Saturday, July 26 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Rec Center. This day was founded for all Americans to embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good health! Join us, along with Zumba Instructor Rachel Oftedahl for a FREE 60-minute Zumba class and learn one of the official National Dance Day Dances! Please wear clothing you can dance, sweat, and work out, along with a water bottle. Bring a friend and join the party! No experience necessary.

NETA Group Fitness Classes Offered: NETA is a non-profit fitness professional association, partnering with the City of New Ulm to offer Group Exercise Certification and Kettlebell Specialty Certification. Both of these nationally recognized workshops will be offered at the Rec Center Aug. 9 and 10. Please register at NETAfit.org.
Full Moon Over Hermann Saturday, Aug. 9 hours extended to 10 p.m. for the unique experience of viewing the MN River Valley under a full moon on top of Hermann! Regular admission applies. In case of inclement weather, the monument will close.
Itty Bitty Beach Party Sunday, Aug. 17 from 12-4 p.m. at Lincoln Park. We will have beach balls, itty bitty ducks, games and fun! Regular admission applies.
Get paid for EcoExercise (burning calories while improving the environment)! A grant was awarded from the Neighborhood Health Connection of Allina Health for the purpose of bringing community members together for camaraderie and healthy eco-exercise; learn to identify buckthorn, observe the effect of this invasive species on our native environment and reduce the burden of berry-bearing trees in the city. A team can enter one to six events over a 6-week period Aug. 16 to September 27. A total of $1,200 will be awarded; $200 for the winning team of each of 6 events. Each eco-exercise event will last approximately 2 hours. Registration forms available at the front desk of the Recreation Center on Monday, July 21. Deadline for submission is Aug. 11, 2014 at noon. Please return registration form as soon as possible for planning purposes.
