Cash for Buckthorn available
NEW ULM -?$1,200 cash is available through a grant from the Neighborhood Health Connection of Allina Health for the purpose of bringing community members together for camaraderie and healthy eco-exercise. (Eco-exercise is burning calories while improving the environment. In this case, the exercise will be to learn to identify buckthorn, observe the effect of invasive species on our native woods, and reduce the burden of berry-bearing trees in the city.
A team can enter one to six events over a 6 week period. beginning Aug. 16 to Sept. 27. A total of $1,200 will be awarded, $200 for the winning team of each of six events, winner take all. Each event last two hours, or $100/hour of eco-exercise
Registration packets will be available at the front desk of the Recreation Center this coming Monday, July 21. Deadline for submission will be noon, Aug. 11, 2014 . Returning the packets as soon as possible will be appreciated to begin planning.
River Rangers host Raptor Center
NEW ULM – Want to see an eagle, hawk, owl and falcon up close? The River Rangers are bringing the Raptor Center from the cities to Hermann Heights on Friday, Aug. 1 at 6 p.m. Free and open to the public.

Tuesday, Aug. 5 from 7 a.m.-5 p.m.
Wednesday, Aug. 6 from 7 a.m.-5 p.m.
Thursday, Aug. 7 from 7 a.m.-5 p.m.
During the dates/times listed, parents/guardians of ECSE and Kindergarten students can also sign up for an entrance conference time.
Lafayette Band Concert
LAFAYETTE – The Lafayette Band is celebrating its 110th year of music by hosting a Pie Social fundraiser on Friday July 25 at the community center in Lafayette from 5 to 7:30 pm. It will be followed by the band’s season finale concert on Main Street at 7:30. Everyone is welcome to join the band for a hot meal, reminiscing, and a night of great music. Musicians always welcome to join in the concert.
