NEW?ULM – Cleo Akre, 89, of New Ulm died Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at the Oak Hills Living Center. There will be a private family service held at a later date in Minneapolis.

Cleo is survived by sons, Dr. Stephen Akre (Deborah) of New Ulm and Jonathan Akre of Phoenix, Arizona; a daughter, Jill Akre, of Golden Valley; grandchildren, Jeff Akre and his fiance, Bri Spaeth, Jenna Lalley (James), Elizabeth White (Zac) and children, Joseph and Eleanor, Kelly Grignard (Etienne) and children Cleo and Etienne and Daniel Akre (Katie) and children, Martin and Sydney.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Clara Stewart.
Cleo Evonne Stewart, the daughter of Jess and Clara (Behrns) Stewart was born on July 4, 1925 in Browns Valley, Minnesota. She attended school in Browns Valley, graduating in the class of 1943. Cleo had lived in Memphis, Tennessee for a short period of time before moving to New Ulm in 1950. She was a homemaker who loved taking care of her children. The love of her life was enjoying time with her children and grandchildren, teaching them “kid things” such as baking and cooking in the kitchen along with crafts throughout the house. Cleo will be sadly missed by her children, her grandchildren, and her friends.
