Bishop has right to speak like anyone else
To the editor:
To eliminate any confusion, let me clarify. The bishop (Bishop John M. Levoir) is a citizen of this great country. He enjoys the same right of freedom of speech as the rest of us do. He’s not restricted to talking to Catholics only. We don’t take him out, dust him off, wind him up on Sundays for a homily, and then put him away in the closet the other six days of the week. If he wants to editorialize about the treatment of immigrants, or about any other issue, good for him. More people should exercise this right. Let’s debate the positions, not the people.
