Popcorn wagon sidelined by regs
NEW ULM – The New Ulm Popcorn Wagon may have popped its last kernel of the year.
Due to recent licensing issues the wagon’s popcorn sales will be placed on hold. Bob Burgess, manager of the Brown County Historical Society, explained that to be USDA compliant the wagon must have a sink with hot running water.
The wagon has long been a staple of the summer months in New Ulm. Earlier this month The Popcorn Wagon celebrated its 100th birthday on July 12.
Burgess explained that the BCHS Board is working to solve the licensing issue, but costs and other distractions are slowing down the process.
Burgess said it was fortunate the wagon could operate for its centennial, and he remains optimistic the licensing issue will be solved in time for the 2015 season when the Popcorn Wagon turns 101 years young.
